Mx Simulator Race Factory Compounding

So far I only see FM6 with better graphics. Not keeping my hopes up for anything. I would wish for a complete overhaul of the tuning/modification system to make more use of the PI.

Going up AND down with ristrictors and extra weight for instance. More setup options along the way. Things like adjusteable brake-balance without having to go for carbon fibre brake discs. If that doesn't happen, how about some goodies in the paint department? Windows, stickers in chrome/matte. Higher resolutions for custom stickers. Paintable wheel centers and interiors.

Career - Instead of finishing 3rd each race make little championships where you need to finish 3rd overall. - (Optional) 1 lap qualify. Start mid pack like it is now if you skip it. - Better DLC intigration.

Instead of just throwing new cars at you, make sure they fit into car class. Make tailormade new showcases for at least half of the new cars. - Be able to use more then 1 Dare-mod card at the same time. - Allow tuning/upgrading for some of the showcases (top-gear, endurance) so all available cars are competitive. - Track editor for autocross. Free race - All the options you get for setting up online lobbies also for offline.

(sort by PI/Car class/year) - Handpick AI opponents with even cars from your own garage. Other - Better bonuses for reaching top manufacturer level (car unlock if the make has enough cars or a mod card that doesn't 'Dirty' your lap for the makes with only a handfull of cars) - Don't stop earning reward credits after reaching said top level but be able to keep levelling up.

- Anthologies (like Porche DLC) for more makes. Ferrari, Ford, Dodge and Chevrolet should be possible be the current carlist.

BMW and Audi if they add a couple more older cars. - Remove tire barriers on the tracks. Or atleast fix AI so they don't crash into it all the time. - Painting and tuning options already mentioned by Dennis While I like dynamic weather, I can't really see it working properly due to PI and too short races. Important and key things have been said, basically, bring back all the goodness from previous titles (content, options, features.) and of course add things we need in a 'Motorsport' title, starting with dropping the 'finish 3rd or better' rule which makes personally no sense at all. For some maybe, but true racers know that if you're not going for the 1st place, you don't bother doing it. I would add more things, specially in the livery editor part of the game, some things have been said already, and I could simply bring back my old wishlist, which is still relevant today but instead, I'm just going to ask for the elephant in the room.PLEASE, make the bugfest great again!

(or make it bad again? Not sure what to say here) well, make it go as empty as possible please. It kills me to see the same mistakes carry over from game to game, seeing new cars with new mistakes.and of course, seeing old good cars ruined from game to game, it's all out of control.

Reasons could be applied for those mistakes, but in the end, the result is the same, cars filled with inaccuracies. Textures, shapes, missing/extra parts, information, moving parts, UV mapping issues.the list of the kind of problems we can spot alone is quite big by itself. If cars can be futureproof for all remaining games, that would be one of the biggest reliefs ever. That, and securing the list as much as possible. That would be other point, but I want to think that entirely depends on the time/licensing problems, not simply choice.

EDIT: I insisted on bug fixing because I think it's important and no one has said it before on the thread, but of course, the #1 thing to do is, to sum up, do more than 'more content' and call it a day, not even dynamic weather and day/night could save it, it's time to make a real difference here. It has to render FM6 obsolete and incomplete as much as possible. Click to expand.I Agree. This really annoys me in Forza 6.

Not just because finishing third every race would suffice, but mostly because it removes title permutations. When I am doing a championship and I win the first couple of races I want to be able to finish sixth to win the championship. Exactly like how the Porsche 919 Hybrid #2 won the LMP drivers title on Saturday or how Nico Rosberg can win the F1 Championship by finishing second or third behind Hamilton. By doing this first place finishes become more important as you can build up a lead in the championship and when your lead is sufficient you could even retire after a very bad crash (instead of using rewind or doing the race all over again). Possibly a 2nd version of career mode, where budget plays a much bigger role. I really enjoyed Sega GT 2002 where you had a tough time buying parts and with the random parts breaking and needing extra cash to repair, made deciding to buy parts or cars a much more daunting task.

I had to restart my career a couple of times due to buying a used engine part and breaking my car mid race, only to find I had 0 cash left to repair the car. Id also like to see additional tuning options that could have negative effects on your car. Too much boost and things blow up. Change the timing incorrectly and ooops, there goes your motor. I also agree with a points system and more hardcore racing features.

Now that's another great idea. I want to start with a very humble car, having to upgrade it, and then slowly growing your garage more and more. A extra setting for permadamage would be great, for extra-realism if you want. You break your car? Have fun reparining it later. Even the NFS IV system would be good for me.

And many other little ideas, things we already said like having names in the official colors in the cars, or separating the classic cars from the new ones (GT made a classic dealership and NFS V made you buy some of the older cars as used cars you had to restore) Many of these ideas alone are small, but together are quite an experience. That's why I'm still hooked to NFS V (The game modes were god-tier as well!) and somehow I felt connected to the cars I had. In Forza.it's like adding sand to a bucket. You have money?

There you go, a 2017 GT. A 1940 racing car. Yes, some cars are expensive and you have to earn the money first, but apart from that.I don't know, it's hard to explain. But I feel like my garage lacks soul compared to other games. The barn finds in FH3 were a nice touch, but as for FM7, something else has to be made. Possibly a 2nd version of career mode, where budget plays a much bigger role. I really enjoyed Sega GT 2002 where you had a tough time buying parts and with the random parts breaking and needing extra cash to repair, made deciding to buy parts or cars a much more daunting task.

I also agree with a points system and more hardcore racing features. In Sega GT 2002, I had this 1972 Toyota Corrolla that I was racing, cant remember if it was my starter car or not. But I was slowly saving up money and eventually had enough to buy either A: Sell the Toyota and buy a Honda Civic hatchback which would allow me to move up in class and make extra cash, or B: buy extra parts for the Toyota and continue to grind lower level money.

I debated that for a good 20 minutes worried that I would screw up my game if I made the wrong choice. I was also very attached to the Toyota as it took a while to get to that point and really didnt want to sell it. I tried to replicate that in FM6, but it didnt work. I created a 2nd account to start a new game save and sold off all my bonus cars. I continued to buy and sell cars for a small loss until I ran out of money and had one low level car in my garage.

Well, after 3 races I had enough money to upgrade my car AND buy another car. In FH3 that problem would be compounded by the prize spins, winning car after car. I literally have 3/4 of my garage that has the little new symbol over it because I havent even driven them.

I go to buy a new car and see the garage icon on a lot of cars and go 'Wait, I have that already?' I mean it's great for someone like my friend who has very limited time to play, but for someone like myself, being showered in money leads to boredom. I played FH3 for about a month and havent touched it since. I have millions of credits and hundreds of cars and no desire to drive them. Jorge said it best, my garage has no soul.

Click to expand.I guess my issue with it is I get bored really fast. Buy a car, drive it once or twice, move on to the next one. I dont get connected to the cars that way and feel like I have nothing to work towards.

I fully understand I am in the minority in my thinking and most people want to have access to everything, and thats fine. Thats the reason why I said a 2nd career mode, something more hardcore for those of us who want to be challenged on a different level than whats currently offered. Possibly a 2nd version of career mode, where budget plays a much bigger role. I know it's a feature wishlist but I'd like to have five things that to make FM7 better. Offer a motherload of customization for each car.

As far as customization goes, there needs to be more options, such as: Diffusers, additional wings, the ability to customize your car's interior, such as additional gauges, custom steering wheel, actual removal of center consoles, etc. That would make FM7 the best in-depth customization in terms of interior and exterior. Service Shop. I know the Forza Motorsport series is a racing simulator, but it isn't without a service station where you can fix your car, change oil, restore body and engine work after hours of racing, all for a price. Gran Turismo has a long history of including this mechanic, and Forza Motorsport just needs this along with lots of other things. Improved Damage System.

Not counting physical damage, I think mechanical damage is what Forza needs improving. It's always the same thing game after game. More parts should be damaged, such as turbochargers, radiators, and have a damage monitor like in Dirt where if you damage one part of the car, it'll show the parts damaged in red. There would also be a new color, black, meaning it's destroyed.

Physical damage would be improved but limited to bumper dangling, windows being smashed, doors being forced open, mirrors hanging down, interior electronics could be messed up, etc. I know it won't happen but it's probably possible. Fix the Drivatars. Or Don't Use Them At All.

Both Forza 6 and FH3 are tamer examples of how NOT to make Drivatars stable at launch. In Forza 6, there's always one Drivatar that pulls away, yet it was patched. FH3 has the 'nitrous' Drivatars where any car could keep up with your supercar, because they're cheaters. In short, either fix the Drivatars or don't bother with them at all. Day and Night cycles and Larger Weather Variety. Forza 6 set the stage on night racing and rain.

Let's hope Forza 7 will include the possibility of inclusion of a dynamic day and night cycle for most, but not all tracks, as well as different weather varieties. Project Gotham Racing 4, for example had multiple types of weather you could choose, from rain to storms to snow and ice. Having this feature in FM7 would make this the best racing game. BTW, the two-year release cycle needs to stop. I would expect FM7 to be released in 2018-2019, not next year.

I'd like to see accurate performance from the cars in the game. I recently watched 'The 24 Hour War' about the Ford/Ferrari battle for supremacy at Le Mans. It inspired me to give Forza 6 another whirl. Less than a lap at Le Mans in a spec accurate GT40 and I gave up.

Azbox Emu Cccam Installer 1.0. I don't know how their physics model missed the mark by such a wide margin for that and so many other vintage racecars, but when the cars in game are 20-30 mph slower down the Mulsanne Straight using race spec gear ratios and HP/TQ numbers, it really shows the massive holes in the game. A more engaging career mode! The later Forza titles are seriously lacking a fun single player experience.

They've tended toward repetitive and grindy game mechanics, with no real meaningful choices. A current Forza choice is like: Should I drive the Ferrari, or the BMW today? A better choice would be: Should I drive the Ferrari, because Ferrari offered me a sponsorship deal, and if I rate high enough they may invite me to join their LeMans race team -- one step closer to winning the Forza triple crown? Or should I turn them down and go with BMW, because it will give me an opportunity to race in the M1 ProCar division, and face off against M. Rossi, who has been taunting me ever since I reached the top tier amateur races? All I want is a free play that is actually worthy of the title.

I want to be able to choose the cars that the drivatars use! The divisions option was a lazy tag-on made by T10 to try and shut us up but, hell, all that did was give us half filled groups of cars, most of which weren't even in the right divisions or weren't in one at all! But yeah, a free play like FM4's would be epic as I spent untold hours using that feature back then, and surely it's not too difficult to implement. Also, I'd like to see a career mode that isn't boring as hell and doesn't make me want to tear my hair out in frustration. And I do love the idea of proper endurance races.

It would also be nice to see some dynamic weather in there as it's in FH3 so why not eh? And, T10, don't pull the whole 'but we can't have rain aaaand night because that would just be far too hard!' Oh and no more drivatars that make me want to scream! FM6 was a very good game but as for FM5, I got bored because its always the same races in career and the same retards online. Sadly, the only feature I enjoy is Rivals because it pushes you to your limits and you love spending time searching for the best parts and tune. My thought concerning the FM franchise is it could be a perfect game but it does not go far enough in what it intends to. For example, there are LMP 1 /LMP 2 / CanAm / F1 cars but no official classification in game, only a performance index.

There are real world tracks but still no real championship like ALMS. This does not contribute to realism and player immersion. So what should Forza career feature to bring the little spark making you addict to the game? 1- A real evolution with more links to your favorite brands >unlock cars and parts only by competing with a special brand. You love Nissan, buy an entry level car (a Sylvia S14 or so on). Make you first races on little tracks and earn you credits so you can buy parts to upgrade your car.

This is classic. But manufacturer affinity is a now a mean to unlock cars. Example: you have reached the first level of affinity, you unlock the R32 Skyline GTR. You have driven 1000 KM / MILES in a Nissan, you unlock a Nissan 370Z.

>Car makers and Car parts makers sponsorships as it was in Sega GT. You need a Turbo for you car. Complete the 'Garett' championship.

Getting access to specific cars would mean you'd have to win a race or a challenge to win that car. >Bring a system like 'battlepacks' in Battlefield game with the lotery.

This could be called 'Tuningpacks'. Bronze 'Tuningpacks' would feature 5 random street parts.

Silver would feature 5 random sport parts and Gold would unlock 5 random race parts. 2- A career adapted to your tastes >championship editor where you can set up the tracks you want, the laps and the admitted cars. 3- More challenges >unlocking championship or a track by beating a friend in a Rivals mode or reaching a target speed. 4- More game mods >we need a real Drift mode with specific championships, we also need street races with urban environnements or fantasy environnements which would not be a race track (speed zones, hills.) >a hardcore game mode where real FIA rules apply, with simulation damage and no rewind >a realistic mode where for example you can't have ABS on cars that were not equiped from factory. 5-Auction House >so people who do not want to do a championship could still buy cars (like in FH3) 6- Paint mode: >a livery generator that randomly create liveries with specific themes (classic, modern race car, artistic, etc.) 7- Afltermarket parts: >more wide body kits >more rims >more manufacturer rims and body parts >wide arches >choice between multiple front and rear Forza aero models I understand why people want to get everyting unlock and tons of credits right at the beginning of the game, but buy doing this you do not take the time to discover the game and its features.

My thought concerning the FM franchise is it could be a perfect game but it does not go far enough in what it intends to. For example, there are LMP 1 /LMP 2 / CanAm / F1 cars but no official classification in game, only a performance index.

T10 just doesn't seem to get how to make one work in a racing game. I don't particularly think we need actual racing series', I'm totally fine racing GT3 against GTLM in a makeshift GT championchip, as long as it's included within a proper racing series, that doesn't make me drive endurance racers, designed to tackle 6 to 24 hours races in 10 3-lap venues.

Personally I'd prefer if they cut the ties between career and free mode. I mean I still want to buy and drive and race whatever the hell I want, but also have an engaging career that forces me to actually do racing driver shit.

Just make the races more significant and immersive, not just grinding to complete a completely random series. They already have a pretty great carlist to do this; start out in the MX-5 cup, Formula Mazda. Succeed to the Trofeo Maserati, Ferrari Challenge or Carrera Cup which could earn you a Works seat at a GT3/GTE team like Chip Ganassi, Manthey or AF Corse or even Formula E. After that you could go to the LMP2/ LMP1 field or maybe even some kind of Grand Prix like class. =>all with already available cars in the infinite T10 pool of cars.

Next to this more sport-like career, there could be the more random race series and showcases; which focus on road cars and historical race events. The Project CARS career would be a great inspiration for a perfect racing game. Just needs a better practical realisation and carlist, which T10 can offer.

My only real complaint about Forza, is the demo-derby AI. The car & track list, yes, that's provided will evolve within' licensing itself.

But until Turn10 actually evolve the AI to race you. It could change the meat of the game. Rather than go into demo-derby mode around you, then back off after you passed an AI.

Only to have a single rabbit AI take off from the rest of the pack is silly. We're past this. Even Assetto Corsa's AI has evolved quicker than Forza's AI ever was, and really.

Forza's environments are all the same. Track temperatures are not a variable. I also hope Turn10 do SOMETHING about the cancerous multiplayer community.

Forza 6's online wasn't known for racing, but known as crash-fest.

We encourage guests to visit us at the Hawker Pacific stand, meet our experienced team and see for themselves what we have to offer.” The 2013 Australian International Airshow and Aerospace & Defence Exposition at Avalon Airport Geelong Trade Exhibition runs from 26 February – 3 March 2013. Shown signing a memorandum of understanding to collaborate and explore ways to enhance science, technology, engineering and mathematics education in the United Arab Emirates (from left) are Pamela Frazier, then president, Northrop Grumman International, Inc., and Tayeb Kamali, vice chancellor, Higher Colleges of Technology. Northrop Grumman Corporation and the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) of the United Arab Emirates have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate and explore ways to enhance science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education in areas that build local capacity across various sectors in the UAE. Signed during the 2012 Global Entrepreneurship Summit held recently in Dubai, UAE, the agreement continues a successful partnership between Northrop Grumman and HCT that began in 2010. The agreement further expands Northrop Grumman's focus on domestic and international educational programs aimed at deepening student appreciation of and interest in STEM programs and careers.

Since 2010, students at HCT have participated in 'Innovation Challenge' – a competition during which teams of HCT students, mentored by Northrop Grumman engineers, gain practical experience by designing, building and testing an unmanned aerial vehicle. The activity culminates in a flying competition. The 2013 Innovation Challenge unmanned aircraft competition, which is open to the public as spectators, will be held April 23-24 at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

The competition's elements include an oral presentation on the team's design and build of its UAV as well as a flying competition that meets specific criteria. The winning student team will travel to the 2013 Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International convention held in August in Washington, D.C., and present its design to an international audience. 'Northrop Grumman is honored to participate in, and sponsor, this competition that encourages innovation among students in the UAE,' said Pamela Frazier, then president, Northrop Grumman International, Inc.

'Innovation Challenge supports an important element of the vision of the UAE leadership in ensuring knowledge and technology are transferred to younger generations. It is a perfect example of how Northrop Grumman cultivates literacy in science, technology, engineering and mathematics and encourages student interest in STEM programs and careers, especially among females and other minorities.'

'The 2013 Innovation Challenge will build on the great success of the previous events and we will see our students, both male and female, demonstrate with great skill how they are able to utilize the knowledge they gain in their courses in such a practical, applied and hands-on manner,' said Tayeb Kamali, HCT vice chancellor. 'This competition is a clear example of HCT's learning-by-doing philosophy, and we thank Northrop Grumman for again committing such wonderful support to enriching our students with these experiences in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles.' Garmin International Inc., the global leader in satellite navigation, today announced a new series of aviation VHF COM and NAV/COM radios, the GTR and GNC series. As the replacement products for the popular SL 30 and SL 40 models, the GTR series COM transceivers and GNC series NAV/COM radios include a breadth of new features to reduce pilot workload, while also offering an affordable solution to meet the requirements of the 8.33 kHz channel spacing mandate recently enacted by the European Union under the Single European Sky (SES) initiative. “These products have truly reinvented the stand-alone COM and NAV/COM radios with novel features like reverse database look-up and the COM monitor function, which bring new efficiencies to cockpit radio management,” said Carl Wolf, Garmin’s vice president of aviation sales and marketing.

“But beyond that, these products demonstrate Garmin’s commitment to aviators worldwide by providing the solutions they need to meet the latest regulatory requirements in their regions, such as the recent SES mandate.” The SES mandate aims to enhance safety and efficiency of air transport in Europe, by tripling the number of channels available for aircraft communications. This mandate requires all aircraft using European airspace to be equipped with 8.33 kHz radios by December 31, 2017. Select GTR and GNC models offer both 25 kHz and the 8.33 kHz operational capabilities required to comply with the law. The series offers a variety of original features never seen before in a stand-alone COM and NAV/COM radios.

A unique frequency database makes it easy to find frequencies associated with a given airport or facility just by entering the location name or station ID. And when manually tuning a frequency, the reverse lookup function will automatically provide the navaid or airport identifier. Pilots can also find the nearest airport, area control center, flight service station, weather frequencies and VORs. All models also include a COM monitor function, which provides the utility of two receivers in one, allowing the pilot to listen to ATIS transmissions without leaving the active ATC frequency, as one example. The GTR and GNC series automatically store the 20 most recently used frequencies. Plus, the radios allow for storage of up to 15 most-used frequencies such as the pilot’s home airport or other frequently visited destinations. A familiar flip-flop feature allows channels to be entered in a standby window, and then activated with a press of a button.

All models also include a built-in, voice activated two-place intercom. The GNC series NAV/COM radios offer all of the same COM features, while also adding navigation capability with VOR/ILS with Glideslope.

The GNC series also works well with select Garmin flight displays including the G500, G600, G500H and G3X™ to display the NAV indicators in the primary field of view, as well as integrate with most autopilots. The GTR and GNC series are more powerful than their SL-series predecessors with versions available with 10- or 16-watt transmit power, allowing for increased range.

The GTR 225 includes 10 watts of transmit power and 25 kHz frequency spacing for $1,995. The GTR 225A adds 8.33 kHz frequency spacing for $2,995. And the GTR 225B includes 8.33 kHz spacing and 16-watt transmit power for $3,995.

The GNC 255A includes 10 watts of transmit power for $4,495 and the GNC 255B includes 16 watts of transmit power for $5,495. Both GNC models include 8.33 kHz spacing.* All products in the series have received the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Technical Standard Order (TSO) authorization and are expected to be available in February to U.S. And global destinations accepting FAA TSO.

The GTR and GNC series will be available in Europe upon European Technical Standard Order (ETSO) authorization, expected in first quarter 2013. Singapore Airlines firms up order for more A380s and A350 XWBs. Singapore Airlines (SIA) has firmed up an order for 25 more widebody aircraft from Airbus, comprising five of the world’s most efficient, high capacity aircraft, the A380, and 20 A350-900s. The deal was completed in 2012 and follows an agreement in October 2012. Singapore Airlines has placed three consecutive orders for the A380, making it the second largest customer of the A380, and now has 19 aircraft in service.

In the mid-size category, the new A350 XWB order sees the airline double its backlog for the all-new aircraft to 40. The A350-900s will be used by the airline on both medium and long haul routes. “This second repeat order from one of the largest A380 operators today is a great endorsement” said John Leahy, Chief Operating Officer, Customers, Airbus.

“We’re also delighted that Singapore Airlines are demonstrating equal confidence in the A350. With both these aircraft, Singapore Airlines will have the most modern, most comfortable and most efficient fleet the market can offer.” Since 2006 the A380 is registering repeat orders by satisfied customers every year, bringing the total orderbook today to 262 from 20 customers. The A350 XWB gathered 582 orders from 34 customers. Since first entering service with Singapore Airlines in 2007, the A380 has joined the fleets of nine world class carriers. Typically seating 525 passengers in three classes, the aircraft is capable of flying 8,500 nautical miles or 15,700 kilometres non-stop, carrying more people at lower cost and with less impact on the environment.

The spacious, quiet cabin and smooth ride have made the A380 a firm favourite with passengers, resulting in higher load factors wherever it flies. The A350 XWB (Xtra Wide-Body) is an all-new mid-size long range product line comprising three versions and seating between 270 and 350 passengers in typical three-class layouts.

The new Family will bring a step change in efficiency compared with existing aircraft in this size category, using 25 per cent less fuel and providing an equivalent reduction in CO2 emissions. Entry into service is scheduled for 2014. Boeing grows composite manufacturing capability. Boeing today announced the purchase of a new building in Salt Lake County, Utah.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has issued a draft decision proposing to grant authorisation, subject to a condition, for five years for an alliance between Qantas Airways Limited and Emirates.

Under the alliance, the two airlines will cooperate on passenger and freight operations across their networks. “The ACCC considers that the alliance is likely to result in material, although not substantial, benefits to Australian consumers,” ACCC Chairman Rod Sims said. “The ACCC is of the view that the main benefit arising from the alliance is an improved product and service offering by the two airlines to their customers. This includes increased customer access to each others’ flights, destinations and frequent flyer programs. The alliance is likely to result in some public detriments through its effect on competition where Qantas and Emirates currently offer overlapping services. In most of these regions, there are factors which are likely to mitigate the public detriment, including continuing competition from a number of established airlines.” The ACCC has however expressed concerns on the overlapping routes between Australia and New Zealand.

'The ACCC is concerned that the alliance may have an increased ability and incentive to reduce or limit growth in its capacity in order to raise airfares', said Sims, 'therefore, the ACCC is proposing a condition to restrict the ability of the alliance in this regard. Given the dynamic nature of the aviation industry, the limited extent of public benefits and the significant role of the trans-Tasman capacity condition in the ACCC’s decision, the ACCC considers it appropriate to review this authorisation earlier than the ten years requested by Qantas and Emirates. In the circumstances, the ACCC proposes to grant authorisation for five years.'

Authorisation provides immunity from court action for conduct that might otherwise raise concerns under the competition provisions of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010. Broadly, the ACCC may grant an authorisation when it is satisfied that the public benefit from the conduct outweighs any public detriment. The ACCC will now invite further submissions from the applicants and interested parties in relation to the draft determination prior to making a final decision on whether to authorise the conduct. The applicants or interested parties may also request that a conference be held to make oral submissions on the draft determination.

Further information, including the application, public submissions and ACCC decisions can be found at www.accc.gov.au/AuthorisationsRegister. Brit Aerobatic Ace Mark Jefferies to fly at Avalon.

The Trent 700 is the only engine specifically designed for the A330 and remains the market leader for the aircraft, with more than 1,400 of the engines either in service or on order. Airservices completes upgrade to terminal area radar in Perth. Airservices, the nation’s air navigation services provider, has completed essential upgrade works on the terminal area radar (TAR) near Perth Airport.

The upgrade is part of a $90 million Australian Mode S Terminal Area Radar (AMSTAR) program. The upgraded Perth TAR will ensure that Airservices continues to provide safe and efficient movement of air traffic through airspace around Perth Airport. Airservices Executive General Manager Projects and Engineering, Mark Rodwell, said, “The upgraded radar will deliver significant benefits to the aviation industry, including higher rates of operational availability, improved data and less frequent maintenance requirements.

“The upgrade to Perth TAR will also ensure that the equipment continues to function safely and efficiently and is vital to Perth Airport operations as it provides essential information to air traffic controllers’ who control aircraft in the surrounding airspace,” he said. Perth Airport did not suffer any disruptions to its services throughout the upgrade with short term radar coverage provided by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) radar at Eclipse Hill and Airservices existing en route surveillance radar at Kalamunda.

This removed the need for a temporary transportable radar to be installed during the upgrade. On completion of the upgrade a stringent flight inspection testing program has been carried out to ensure the radar was operating within a high degree of accuracy. Perth Airport is the 4th busiest airport in Australia, with the number of flights increasing by 40 per cent, to around 400 flights a day, and flight numbers continuing to grow at 13 per cent per year.

Airservices has so far upgraded seven radars as part of the AMSTAR program. One year to go for mandatory ADS-B fitment. Business jet operators and airlines are being urged to get fitted with Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast (ADS-B) technology, with now less than a year until the deadline for mandatory fitment.

Due to come into affect on 12 December 2013, the mandate, introduced by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority in 2009, requires domestic and foreign operators of aircraft flying at and above FL290 (29,000 feet) to have ADS-B equipment installed and operating correctly. Australia’s air traffic control surveillance future is tied to ADS-B – a satellite based air navigation system that enables aircraft to be accurately tracked by air traffic controllers, and other pilots, without the need for conventional radar. Given the timeframe associated with equipment installation, Airservices continues to encourage all operators, particularly business jet aircraft, to install ADS-B in advance of the mandate. Most airlines are very well advanced in their fitment programs. Airservices is now seeing over 80 per cent of flights at or above FL290 by Australian registered aircraft, flying in the Australian flight information region, getting the ADS-B service. This is in comparison to eight per cent of Australian registered business jet aircraft.

Benefits of ADS-B equippage include reduced separation standards for aircraft flying outside of conventional radar coverage, which translates into increased safety, reduced use of stepped climbs and descents and more clearances granted to fly requested routes or levels. Non-ABS-B equipped aircraft will be restricted to operate below FL290, resulting in less operational flexibility and the potential for delays due to the procedural separation standards that will be applied outside radar airspace. More information on ADS-B and the 12 December 2013 mandate can be found on our website at www.airservicesaustralia.com/ projects/ads-b Garmin announces executive transition plan. Today announced that effective January 1, 2013 the board of directors has appointed Clifton Pemble to the position of president and CEO, succeeding co-founder, Dr. Pemble, who joined Garmin in 1989 as one of the company’s first engineers, has been serving as president and chief operating officer since October 2007, and has been a member of the Garmin Ltd. Board of directors since August 2004.

Kao will assume the role of executive chairman, where he will continue to serve as the chairman of the board of directors while also providing ongoing support to the company’s strategic planning and business development processes. “One indicator of an enduring company is the strength of its succession plan,” said company co-founder Dr.

“Cliff has been instrumental in establishing Garmin as a global leader in every market we serve. I firmly believe that he is equipped to lead us into the future with skills and knowledge that encompass the breadth and depth of the entire business. I am grateful to Cliff for his years of unselfish service and his willingness to accept this new role. I am also pleased with the depth of the executive management team which will be serving under Cliff’s leadership.” Speaking on behalf of the board, Pemble said, “Min, along with Gary Burrell, aspired to bring the benefits of GPS technology to the masses. They succeeded; Garmin is now a multi-billion dollar company with strong profits, amazing technologies and a diverse market strategy that will serve us well in 2013 and beyond. We cannot adequately express our gratitude for Min’s enduring vision and leadership. As we enter a new era for our company, he will continue to play a vital role in the formulation of our business strategy.

We are fortunate to have Min’s ongoing wisdom and experience as we move forward into the future.” Since its inception in 1989, Garmin has delivered more than 100 million products, most of them enabled with GPS – far more than any other navigation provider. The company was recently chosen as a component in the S&P 500 index, widely used as a benchmark for investors and a gauge of the overall performance of the U.S. Stock market. Avia Aircraft launches Avia Airshares Fractional Ownership program. Avia Aircraft is set to revolutionise the business aviation market with the launch of its fractional ownership program, Avia AirShares. Utilising the Cirrus SR22 aircraft, the Avia AirShares program will allow owners to purchase a share in an aircraft according to their needs.

Shares start at a very affordable 75 flying hours per year with all ownership logistics such as maintenance, insurance, scheduling and hangarage incorporated into a monthly management fee. “Fractional ownership opens up a world of possibilities.

With the Avia Airshares program a fractional owner can enjoy all the benefits of private aviation - time savings, convenience, security and safety - at a fraction of the cost of sole ownership” said Avia Aircraft’s Co-Founder and Managing Director, Graham Van Damme. The company's philosophy around fractional ownership and light business aviation is all about “a matter of time', recognising that for their clients, time is literally money.

“We want our clients to enjoy the fantastic freedom that comes with owning and flying their own aircraft, so they can get more out of their day – whether its making business time more productive or pleasure time more pleasurable” Mr Van Damme said. A unique benefit of the program is the owner’s reciprocal arrangement (SHAircraft) to increase aircraft availability and manage conflicting bookings. While interest is in a specific aircraft, fractional owners have access to the entire fractional fleet, providing them with enhanced travel flexibility.

Each aircraft is also equipped with the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS™) for added safety and peace of mind. According to Mr Van Damme, the program benefits are endless “our modern fleet offers easy access to remote locations often unreachable by commercial airlines, allowing owners to move quickly from one location to another.

There are no queues, no check-ins, no boarding and disembarking times, and no time waiting for baggage. You just fly.” Flying fun for everyone at Evans Head. Paul Bennett struts his stuff in his aerobatic Pitts Special. The skies above Evans Head are set to become alive with aviation activity on January 5th and 6th when the seaside town becomes the centre of summer holiday fun with the 2013 Great Eastern Fly-In. Held at the Evans Head Memorial Aerodrome in January each year, the Great Eastern has become a key event on the Australian aviation calendar since its inception 21 years ago. 'The Fly-In is one of the great aviation events on the east coast, attracting pilots from all over Australia and it’s in our backyard' says Gai Taylor, the Fly-In co-ordinator. 'Local people love the Fly-In and we’ve all missed it for the past two years with bad weather and other issues which have been out of our control, so it will be great to be back with all our old friends and plenty of new ones.

The aim of the Fly-In is to really highlight just how important aviation is to us all and to celebrate the heritage of the Aerodrome in a fun way.' All types of aircraft will be attending, including a former RAAF P51 Mustang, and others including a T28 Trojan, Pitts Special aerobatic planes, Wirraways, Winjeels, gyros, microlights, models, recreational and general aviation aircraft, and ‘Big Bird’ a Russian Antonov, the world’s largest biplane. The developer of the new Evans Head Aviation Air Park, Peter Lynch, will also be on hand to discuss his proposals which are set to bring the aerodrome back to life as an aviation hub.

The Great Eastern will have air displays, joy flights, Saturday’s ‘Flying’ markets and on Sunday a ‘Show and Shine’, with enthusiasts bringing their classic cars and bikes. A first this year will also be displays of boats and models, historic displays about the Aerodrome and aviation art. The event is fully catered, and on Saturday morning the Ballina Concert Band will entertain the crowds with old tunes synonymous with the bygone World War eras.

The war years have special significance to Evans Head which was the largest Air Force training establishment in the Southern Hemisphere from 1939 to 1945. The Aerodrome has also been in the limelight lately, with news of the acquisition of a RAAF F111 by the local aviation heritage group and new plans for aviation on the Aerodrome, including a new Museum in the former WW2 Bellman hangar, and an aviation business park. Another highlight will be Australia’s respected and renowned aerobatic legend Paul Bennett who will be performing breathtaking low level displays.

Asia-Pac Summit to give Australia wings in the region. Aviation/Aerospace Australia has announced what is shaping as the most important gathering of industry leaders in Melbourne in February next year. The 2013 Asia Pacific Aviation and Aerospace Leaders Summit will focus local attention on a region that is forecast to be the fastest growing aviation market over the next two decades, and was a window of opportunity for a sector that was undergoing major structural change in Australia. A/AA CEO Jim Carden said the Summit was designed to bring together the industry’s thought leaders, particularly from new and emerging markets, to discuss issues, challenges and opportunities, share experiences and create new partnerships – and to provide local industry with critical exposure to the opportunities that exist on our doorstep. “Our sector is battling major global headwinds and undergoing major structural change, but we are also ideally located in an area which will become home to most of the world’s middle class and will be the world’s largest producer of goods and services and the largest consumer of them. Aviation is a fundamental – indeed, critical – driver of this growth, and Australia must position itself to be a part of it,” Mr Carden said.

The Summit follows the release of the Government's 'Australia in the Asian Century White Paper' and will be opened by Australia’s Minister for Transport and feature the most senior government officials responsible for the sector’s regulation and international engagement. However Mr Carden said a key objective of the Summit is to hear from international speakers about their own markets, rather than the typical Australian perspective.

“That’s why we have worked hard to secure speakers from India, China, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, Fiji, Malaysia, Indonesia and Taiwan, as well as international industry groups, manufacturers, airlines and airports. It is all part of our drive to make sure we are engaged with and listening to these critical regional voices.” The Summit is a key element in A/AA’s support for Australian industry’s international trade development, and is a feature event leading into the Australian International Air Show in February. Aviation Industry calls for status in Canberra.

Article by Steve Creedy from The Australian, December 14, 2012. THE next federal government should appoint a minister for aviation with his own department and commit to better industry engagement, according to a coalition of the nation's aviation associations. The call is among a series of actions recommended in a wide-reaching policy document prepared by the Australian Aviation Associations' Forum ahead of next year's federal election. The policy was launched in Sydney on Wednesday and has been sent to bureaucrats and parliamentarians, including Transport Minister Anthony Albanese and opposition transport spokesman Warren Truss. It is backed by the Aerial Agriculture Association of Australia, the Australian Association of Flight Instructors, the Australian Business Aviation Association, the Aviation Maintenance Repair and Overhaul Business Association, the Regional Aviation Association of Australia and the Royal Federation of Aero Clubs of Australia.

The document looks at 15 areas ranging from aviation taxation and government policy to insurance, research and regulatory reform. The associations believe the focus on aviation issues has been lost in the restructures and portfolio changes that have occurred over recent decades. They also believe that while the government's aviation white paper was a good summary of existing aviation policy, it lacked vision. The policy document argues that aviation is an essential part of the national infrastructure but this is not reflected in the structure of the Department of Infrastructure and Transport or its predecessors for the past several decades.

'There is a distinct lack of any government instrumentality with a clear charter to promote aviation and yet it is the preferred mode of transport for business, tourism and industry,' it says. The AAAF members want the government to develop stand-alone aviation policies overseen by an aviation minister with his own department. At the very least, they want an improved ministerial focus through a parliamentary secretary and a clearly delineated department or division. There should also be a high level 'Aviation Research Institute' investigating and analysing industry issues and trends. On the regulatory front, the document calls for a review of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority board to include industry representation and for reform to be taken from the regulator and placed with the department. Other calls include a change in legislation to give aviation agencies the power and responsibility to foster and promote an Australian aviation industry, the abolition of the carbon tax and a 60 per cent aircraft depreciation rate in the first year.

They also recommend a 150 per cent write-off for aviation research access to HECS for all commercial pilots, financial support for aviation services to regional centres where a commercial service is not viable and the reintroduction of an en-route subsidy. A lengthy airports section calls for an integrated airport and aviation policy to ensure development is compatible with the industry and guaranteed access for regional and business jet services to capital city airports. It says government should 'direct the ACCC to oversee and direct pricing at major and secondary airports and direct it to maintain a focus on airport pricing, especially as it affects aviation users'. AAAF chairman Chris Manning said the document marked the start of a high-level campaign designed to push aviation, and predicted it would be a long process. 'It's forward-looking, it has a fair bit of vision,' he said.

'It's not what I would call 'in the weeds' too much. It's positive, it gives solutions to the things we think are important in aviation.' Representatives of organisations attending this week's launch said there was a consensus on the policy document. AAAA chief executive Phil Hurst said the policy was not a carping criticism of CASA or any other particular agency. 'What we've tried to do is learn from the past, to suggest a framework for the future, because we believe it is the framework that is causing a lot of the problems we see in aviation,' he said. Mr Hurst said the forum wanted political parties to look at the policies, to pick them up in the spirit in which they were offered and to engage with industry to work out what could be delivered.

'So when aviators broadly in the industry come to the next election, they should have much better idea of where the political parties stand in the terms of their commitment to something that a lot of the industry has signed on to,' he said. However, it may be some time before that happens. Spokespeople for Mr Truss and Mr Albanese said they were still considering the document. Garmin® expands global aviation charting capabilities. Garmin International Inc., the global leader in satellite navigation, today announced the release of European VFR and IFR charts for the aera® 795/796 aviation portable GPS, with VFR data sourced directly from Deutsche Flugsicherung (DFS). These charts are the most recent addition to the growing list of worldwide aviation charting products available from Garmin.

“Pilots have flown behind DFS paper charts for years, but the ability to display the charts electronically is something our European customers have been asking for. We’ve listened to that feedback and have made significant investments over the last year to expand our electronic chart offerings for customers worldwide,” said Carl Wolf, Garmin’s vice president of aviation sales and marketing. “Having information available electronically in the cockpit offers pilots more immediate access to the information they need to make good decisions.” Earlier this year, Garmin also introduced European VFR terminal charts, or Bottlang charts, from Jeppesen for the aera 795/796, containing colored visual approach, landing and area charts, as well as general-and country-related text sections such as Regulations, Communications, Meteorology, Aerodrome Directory and more for the planning and execution of flights within Europe under Visual Flight Rules.

Additionally, Garmin recently expanded its SafeTaxi® database, which now includes geo-referenced airport diagrams for over 1,000 U.S. Airports, nearly 500 European airports and over 250 Canadian airports.

This database is complemented by an electronic AC-U-KWIK global airport directory that includes information about nearly 8,000 airports worldwide. The new European VFR and IFR charts for the aera 795/796 are available as a combination subscription for $410. Customers may purchase only the IFR charts for $155 for an annual subscription. VFR charts are available as a one-time purchase of a single country ranging from $32 to $90, or as a one-time purchase for all of Europe for $205.

The charts are available from flyGarmin.com. Garmin’s aviation business segment is a leading provider of solutions to Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), aftermarket, military and government customers. Pictured from the left: Philip Hammon from BSB, Matt Hall and James Shearer, CEO Blue Mountains and Oberon Tourism. A flyover of the Blue Mountains, Lithgow and Bathurst involving up to 300 different aircraft is being planned as part of the activities marking the Bicentenary of Blaxland, Lawson and Wentworth’s Blue Mountains crossing. It is hoped that everything from helicopters to small private fixed wing aircraft to World War ll fighters and modern day military jets will take part in the event on May 25 next year.

Organisers are working with the RAAF for their assistance with resources such as staging areas and aircraft participation. Once airborne participants will follow a similar path to that blazed by the three explorers in 1813 with viewing areas planned for Penrith, Glenbrook, Springwood, Hazelbrook, Wentworth Falls, Katoomba, Blackheath, Mt York, Lithgow and Bathurst. Former RAAF Wing Commander Matt Hall, Australia’s leading aerobatic display pilot, is coordinating the event on behalf of Businesses Supporting the Bicentenary and Blue Mountains Lithgow and Oberon Tourism. Discussions are also underway about a public event at Bathurst Airport where the flyover will conclude, allowing spectators to see the aircraft on the ground, take joyflights and purchase memorabilia. Businesses Supporting the Bicentenary director Philip Hammon, who owns Scenic World at Katoomba, came up with the idea of a flyover to enable thousands of people to view the event and celebrate the Bicentenary from within their local communities. “A flyover is something that demonstrates just how far we have come in the last 200 years since Blaxland, Lawson and Wentworth made their historic journey,” Mr Hammon said.

“With viewing areas all the way from Penrith through the Blue Mountains to Bathurst people will be able to see what is going to be a spectacular event that the entire community can get involved in.” Hall, who served time in combat over Iraq while on exchange with the US Air Force in 2003, said the flyover had the potential to be one of the largest gatherings of aircraft in Australian history. “We are looking for aviators with aircraft of all shapes and sizes to be involved in what will be a truly unique experience,” Hall said. “To be involved in a co-ordinated flyover like this is something that’ll be pretty cool and we will be calling for participants before the end of the year.” Blue Mountains Lithgow & Oberon Tourism chairman Randall Walker congratulated Mr Hammon on instigating the flyover. “This event promises to be one of the most spectacular ever to have occurred in the Blue Mountains. To celebrate a crossing by foot 200 years ago with a crossing by air, with historic aircraft will be an unforgettable experience,” Mr Walker said. “To celebrate one milestone in the nation’s history by creating another is a wonderful masterstroke of visionary Philip Hammon.' Old world glamour and colourful showmanship will feature at next year's Australian International Airshow with the appearance of the world's only formation wing walking team. The Breitling Wingwalkers are the world's only aerobatic formation display team to feature professional wingwalkers. The team was formed in the late 1980's by team founder Vic Norman, who felt it was time to bring back the breathtaking spectacle. This highly professional team have been entertaining Airshow crowds in Europe for decades, now two of the teams four aircrafts and their glamorous crew will make their first visit to Australia at next year's Australian International Airshow at Avalon. 'Being given the chance to perform downunder is really exciting, 'says team owner and founder, Vic Norman.

'In our 30 year history, we have so far performed in nearly every European country, the United Arab Emirates and often in China, but to finally make it to Australia and the Southern Hemisphere is a huge landmark for the team – a real first!' Wingwalking was popular in the 1920's when pilots were part of the 'barnstorming' tradition of entertaining people with stunts and flying around the countryside offering flights at county fairs. The roar of the iconic Boeing Stearman biplanes and their brightly coloured Breitling livery will evoke memories of aviation's golden era. The aerial ballerinas on the wings will perform a series of gymnastic movements that may look easy, but take considerable skill and effort.

While the pilots have radio communication with each other, the wingwalkers operate without a headset and have to rely on hand signals for communication. 'I think Houdini was the first man to fly in Australia, well we're not going to perform a disappearing act for the Australian public, but we will certainly entertain them with our fun and daring display routine,' says team owner Vic Norman.

The Breitling Wingwalkers will be a key feature of what will be a highly entertaining and diverse line up of aircraft at the 2013 Australian International Airshow. CTC gains Hong Kong CAD approval. Airline pilot training organisation, CTC Aviation Training (NZ) Limited, has gained approval from the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department (HKCAD) to conduct integrated training for the issue of Hong Kong CAD Commercial Pilot Licences. The Eagle Trophy is a silver replica of a Rolls-Royce Eagle VIII engine that powered the RAAF’s first aircraft, the Fairey III D aircraft at the RAAF’s formation on 31st March 1921. In 1996, Rolls-Royce presented the first Eagle Trophy to the RAAF at its 75th Anniversary. Two airshow veterans to perform for the last time. Two of Australia’s most recognisable names in aviation will make their final Australian International Airshow appearances at Avalon next year.

Veteran aerobatic pilot Chris Sperou and sky diving great Dave Benson will say farewell to Avalon crowds with their final performances at the event from February 26 to March 3 next year. The pair have been popular individual performers at the Australian International Airshow for many years, and for Avalon2013, will join together to perform a spectacular opening to the flying display. Chris Sperou says it will be hard to say goodbye to the Airshow crowds.

“I’ve been with the Airshow since its inception and it does sadden me that I won’t be performing there anymore, but I just feel it’s time to let some of the younger pilots have their chance in the spotlight.” Chris will be flying his spectacular red Pitts bi-plane ‘Super Stinker’ at the Airshow. It’s the only Pitt’s model of its kind in Australia and has over 300 horsepower. “It’s a great plane to fly, it’s a modern plane in its design and aerobatic capability, but it brings back that feeling of nostalgia as well.” World flag flying record holder Dave Benson will also say farewell to the crowds at Avalon with his last flag drop at the Australian International Airshow. Benson has opened the flying display with his flag drop across many events, but at Avalon2013 he’ll be buzzed in the air by Chris Sperou in the Pitts ‘Super Stinker’ as he descends. The pair has performed the act before and say it gives the flag drop more of a sense of occasion. Chris Sperou and Dave Benson join a star studded line-up of performers already confirmed for the 2013 Australian International Airshow. These include US Airshow star Skip Stewart, British aerobatic champion Mark Jefferies and Australia’s own top gun, Matt Hall.

The 2013 Australian International Airshow and Aerospace & Defence Exposition will be staged at Avalon Airport near Geelong from February 26 – March 3, with the public days of the event held across March 1- 3. Found Aircraft's Expedition E350 now gracing Australian skies.

Australia's first Expedition E350. The first Found Aircraft Canada Expedition E350 aircraft is now flying in Australia in the capable hands of its owner, NW Queensland cattleman Alister McClymont. McClymont ordered the aircraft after thoroughly researching its suitability for supporting his pastoral businesses, including commissioning a report from Townsville based engineer Steven Hegarty who visited Found Aircraft on a North America trip, taking the opportunity to both fly the aircraft, observe the production process, and assess the feasibility of effecting delivery via dis-assembly, containerisation, and local reassembly. In this case this was the strongly preferred option over flying the aircraft out, and in the event Hegarty found it very straightforward to put back together.

With highly favourable feedback and showing the resolve typical of successful rural operators, McClymont backed his own judgement and thus becomes the Australian launch customer for the type. “I’m very pleased with it”, he says, “it’s fast – it hikes along at 150 knots plus, gets airborne quickly, and climbs very well despite the heat up here.

Talking of which, the ventilation airflow once in the air is great – that was something I had been concerned about in buying a Canadian aircraft but in fact it’s better than I get from my other aircraft.' 'Another thing I really like', says McClymont, 'is how easy it is to remove the rear seats to convert to cargo operations – we cart all sorts of stuff and this thing looks like it’s built to be worked, and we work them pretty hard. I also like the four big doors which can open no matter what position the flaps are in – good for loading and also for safety if we need to get out in a hurry.' 'The aircraft has a tubular steel spaceframe surrounding the cabin and I saw this too as a huge consideration for safety' says McClymont, 'I think this aircraft will suit others like myself very well – it out performs my other aircraft in pretty much every department”. The Expedition is a high wing utility aircraft with seating for five, four doors (all with observer windows), and a fixed tricycle undercarriage, powered by a 315 hp Lycoming IO-580 engine. It features an exceptionally strong welded steel tube frame clad with lightweight carbon fibre surrounding the cabin and conventional riveted aluminium construction for the rest of the airframe, including the wing which is built in one piece. It comes with Garmin 500 glass as standard, optional autopilot and is also available in a tail wheel (the Bigfoot) and turbocharged versions.

It is in production in Ontario, Canada. Found Aircraft Canada Inc is represented in Australia and Papua New Guinea by Bryce Ducker Aircraft Sales. Hawker Pacific sells first Diesel-Twin Diamond Aircraft into Australia. Hawker Pacific, Asia Pacific’s leading aircraft sales, services and product support company, is pleased to announce the sale of the Diamond Aircraft twin-diesel, DA42-NG demonstrator to Australian Wings Academy (AWA).

The twin engine diesel aircraft will be based on the Gold Coast, QLD, and will be used by the academy for flight training services. The sale came from a lead during Hawker Pacific’s 2012 Demonstration Tour and, according to Tony Jones, Hawker Pacific’s Senior Vice President, Aircraft Sales and Flight Services Group, reflects a strong momentum for fleet aircraft in the region. “This is the second aircraft to be sold from the Demonstration Tour, the first being the DA40-XLS which we sold in May this year to another flight training school based in QLD. Diamonds are incredibly durable, cost effective machines and, fitted with the latest leading technologies, will no doubt be the global training aircraft of choice for the foreseeable future.” Carolyn Thorburn, General Manager, Australian Wings Academy said: “The DA42-NG will be a welcome addition to our current mix of some of the most modern single and multi-engine training aircraft available at AWA. Our student base is continuing to grow, and so too is the demand for us to deliver more diverse, robust aircraft that can cater for beginners to advanced pilots. For this reason, we went to market and believe we have purchased the most technologically advanced twin trainer available.

The DA42-NG complements our existing DA40 fleet which will make it much easier for students to transition from single engine training to the MECIR course which is done in a twin engine aircraft. At AWA, we have had a great history with the DA40s in terms of operation and performance, and best of all the students love them. What’s more, with the DA40 running on diesel, it uses Jet A1 which is more cost effective and more readily available than the alternatives.” Equipped with twin Jet A1-powered AE300 turbo diesel engines produced by Austro Engine GmbH, the next generation aircraft is renowned for its extreme range, which also makes it perfectly suited to cross-country travel. Hawker Pacific is the appointed distributor for Diamond Aircraft throughout Australia and New Zealand. Flight Options Flight Training Centre opens for business.

Airservices has commissioned a transportable radar at Mt Sandon in New South Wales as part of the organisation’s En Route Radar Replacement Project (ERRP). The Mt Sandon radar will provide coverage during an upgrade of the main en route radar at The Round Mountain (Coffs Harbour).

En route, or secondary surveillance radars, are used by air traffic controllers to provide separation of aircraft operating in high level airspace. The installation of the transportable radar at Mt Sandon commenced in April and was commissioned on 30 November 2012. The transportable radar will remain in place until the upgrade of the main radar at The Round Mountain is completed in August next year. “Installation of the transportable radar at Mt Sandon will ensure ongoing radar coverage during the upgrade of The Round Mountain radar and will ensure that we are able to maintain and enhance high levels of aviation safety in the region,” said Airservices Executive General Manager Projects and Engineering, Mark Rodwell.

“Work will now commence on The Round Mountain radar site as part of the en route radar replacement project,” said Mr Rodwell. The radar provides critical surveillance coverage over a busy flight corridor between Sydney and Brisbane. The en route radar replacement project is part of Airservices five-year capital expenditure plan worth over $900 million and will see the replacement of en route surveillance radars located around Australia. “These radars provide coverage for aircraft operating predominately in the high level airspace on the more significant routes' says Mr Rodwell, 'some of these radars are also located so that they can support the coverage of nearby terminal area radars (TAR) and provide coverage in the busy airspace surrounding major airports to ensure continuity of operations in the event of service outages.” Airservices is a government-owned corporation which provides air navigation services in 11 per cent of the world’s airspace – an area three times greater than continental Europe. More information on the scholarships is available at www.awpa.org.au/ Airservices upgrades navigational equipment at Perth.

Airservices Australia, the nation’s air navigation services provider, has completed essential upgrade works on the instrument landing systems (ILS) at Perth Airport. ILS is a course-forming radio navigation aid that supports the safe and efficient movement of air traffic into and out of the airport, by guiding pilots to the runway during low visibility and bad weather conditions. The upgrade works commenced in August and included the replacement of the localiser antenna arrays at each end of the main runway (Runway 03/21). The localiser antenna provides pilots with lateral guidance to the runway during an instrument approach. During the works the ILS was removed from service with pilots using other navigation aids, including VHF omni-directional range and area navigation (RNAV) procedures, for instrument landings. Airservices Executive General Manager Projects and Engineering, Mark Rodwell, said ILS is a highly accurate means for pilots to navigate to the runway during low cloud conditions when visibility is reduced.

“The commissioning of the landing systems at Perth now completes a national upgrade program which Airservices has carried out around the country including at Sydney, Alice Springs and Canberra airports,” Mr Rodwell said. “The upgrades will ensure that any unexpected outages are kept to a minimum and ensure Airservices continues to provide safe and reliable services to pilots using any of our 23 instrument landing systems nationally for precision approaches.” Adagold Aviation confirms senior management appointment.

The Swedish Maritime Administration’s AW139s will also be equipped with the unique Full Ice Protection System (FIPS) allowing flights into known icing conditions and enabling all weather operations, when other types would be confined to the hangar. Planning for new Melbourne runway welcomed. The announcement that the next Melbourne Airport Master Plan will include details of a new east-west runway shows Australia continues to lead the world in the successful privatisation of its major airports, peak industry body Aviation/Aerospace Australia said today. Melbourne now joins Brisbane in the race to deliver critical airport capacity to head off the sort of chronic congestion and finance problems that plague many publicly-run airports around the world. These two runway projects – worth around $3 billion – are arguably the first of their type in the world to be funded by the private sector, representing a new high in investment by Australian airport operators, and highlighting the benefits of Australia's privatised airports regime.

A/AA CEO Jim Carden said the global economy had dramatically curtailed the capacity of governments around the world to build critical national infrastructure. The decision to hand over the responsibility of airport development to the private sector has been vindicated as far-sighted public policy, and represented a model the rest of the world was beginning to adopt. He urged Federal, State and Local Government to work with Melbourne Airport to ensure the delivery of the proposed new runway met the needs of all stakeholders, including local communities, as well as the airlines that had to use them, and the passengers who would ultimately pay for them. 'It is critical that communities are properly informed of the future development of their airports to ensure we avoid the catastrophic consequences of inappropriate residential development being allowed to creep towards airport boundaries,' Mr Carden said. 'It is also important that the beneficiaries of airport expansion projects are able to appropriately share the risks, capital burden and rewards of these vital pieces of infrastructure. 'Melbourne Airport has a progressive and proactive approach to stakeholder engagement for its Master Plan process, and works closely with all levels of Government to ensure that sustained community engagement provides the long-term permission to operate and grow. 'It is vital that planning authorities work together to ensure the benefits of the Airport are not eroded by short-term planning, and A/AA looks forward to working with all stakeholders to deliver the necessary infrastructure when it is needed, when it is needed.'

According to the recently released Airbus Global Market Forecast (GMF), Latin American airlines will require 2,120 new aircraft between today and 2031, including 1,660 single-aisle, 420 twin-aisle and 40 very large aircraft estimated at $242 billion. Globally, by 2031 some 28,200 new aircraft valued at $4 trillion will be required to satisfy future robust market demand. With GDP currently growing above the world average, socio-economic indicators predict Latin America’s middle class will double between 2012 and 2031. Additionally, Latin America has become the second most urbanised region worldwide after North America, and by 2031, 10 out of the 92 mega-cities with more than 10,000 daily long-haul passengers will be in the region. As a result of this region’s dynamic economic growth, Latin America’s air traffic will rise 5.3 percent per year over the next 20 years, well above the world average of 4.7 percent. Benefiting from this, the region's airlines will grow their own traffic by almost 6 percent per year, the second highest growth globally, only exceeded by those airlines based in the Middle East.

Additionally, Latin American airlines’ market share on long-haul routes increased by 8 percent between 2005 and 2011, to reach 21 percent today, showing that they have significant development potential for intercontinental networks. Increased aircraft demand is also leading Latin American airlines to ordering larger aircraft. Between 2000 and 2012, average aircraft seat capacity increased by more than 13 percent, while the average age of Latin America’s fleet in service decreased below the world average to 10 years of age. “The Latin American market has become smarter, seeking out highly-efficient, cost-effective and versatile aircraft,” said Rafael Alonso, Executive Vice President of Airbus for Latin America and the Caribbean.

“Airbus is perfectly positioned to serve the market’s requirements and future aviation demand with its A320, A330 and A350 Families, as well as the A380.” Another important trend in Latin America is the rise of low cost carriers throughout the region. Brazil and Mexico have become leaders of the low-cost-carrier segment in the region, with the two countries combined contributing to 95 percent of the market. With more than 700 aircraft sold and a backlog of almost 350, over 450 Airbus aircraft are in operation throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. In the last 10 years, Airbus has tripled its in-service fleet, while delivering more than 60 percent of all aircraft operating in the region. TAE delivers advanced electronics enclosures for First Australian JSF's. As part of its long term agreement with Harris Corporation, Australian engineering company TAE has successfully delivered the latest batch of advanced liquid cooled electronics enclosures for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) aircraft.

He said “TAE has shown it is a globally competitive manufacturer which has won work on the most advanced fighter aircraft in the world. The parts made here will be installed on every Joint Strike Fighter.

That means there will be a little bit of Queensland in every plane.” Mr Andrew Sanderson, General Manager of TAE said “TAE is very proud, both of what we have accomplished and to be a part of the JSF program. As an Australian company, to have parts on the first Australian F-35s is something that is especially pleasing”.

Mr Sanderson went on to explain that TAE’s wide range of manufacturing capabilities, especially its Aluminium Vacuum Brazing technology; dedicated professional work force; and emphasis on on-time, quality performance all contributed to ensuring the success in achieving goals such as this. TAE has worked closely with Harris Corporation on this program for a number of years and TAE is the first Australian company to have successfully developed the Aluminium Vacuum Brazing technology and is one of only a small number world-wide to have the capability. Mr Mark McKenzie, Harris Corporation’s Supply Chain Manager for the F-35/Lightning II Program commented “TAE is an important part of the Harris team and has been delivering world class products to us. Their dedication, enthusiasm and commitment to excellence have led to significant accomplishments. We look forward to continuing and expanding our successful relationship with them for many years to come”. Report released into Perth Airport capacity. Airservices Australia has today released a study into the capacity of Perth Airport as part of a broad suite of initiatives underway to address delays and congestion.

The study, undertaken by the United Kingdom’s air navigation service provider, NATS as part of Airservices collaborative Airport Capacity Enhancement (ACE) program, saw a team of experts from NATS visit Perth in February 2012 to investigate opportunities to improve airport capacity. NATS is internationally recognized as a leader in the provision of air traffic control and consultancy services including some of the busiest airspaces in the world. The 119-page technical report looks at current and future operational performance improvement opportunities. In doing so, it makes a range of recommendations to shape and prioritise future initiatives undertaken collaboratively by all parties involved. Airservices Chief Executive Officer, Margaret Staib said that Airservices has been working closely with Perth Airport and airlines to deal more cohesively with the challenges of growth in air traffic. “Growth at Perth Airport, fuelled largely by the success of the resource industry and demand for fly-in, fly-out services, has been phenomenal,” Ms Staib said, “this was a pro-active study initiated by Airservices to look at the issues of congestion and delay and what action can be taken by airlines, the airport and Airservices to ease congestion and make better use of existing infrastructure. The report identifies opportunities for Airservices, Perth Airport and the airline community to work together to establish a robust operations concept, incorporating both airfield and airspace to improve the airport capacity.

NATS has made a number of suggestions for improvement which will require action by Airservices, Perth Airport and airline operators over the next 24 months. This includes improvements in operational efficiency, airspace management and better airport infrastructure. Initiatives that will be undertaken include reduced runway occupancy times of aircraft, improved aircraft sequencing to the airport and better use of taxiways.

An airline schedule coordination system will also be introduced by Perth Airport which will see the allocation of landing and take-off slots at the airport. “Some of the improvements will be realised in the short term, while others are more incremental and will take time to realise” Ms Staib said. Organisers of the Australian International Airshow and Aerospace & Defence Exposition are delighted to announce one of America's most popular Airshow performers is bringing his dynamic act to Australia for the first time. Skip Stewart has been described as one of the most entertaining Airshow pilots in the world. He's has been performing on the Airshow circuit for more than ten years and has over eight thousand hours of flying experience.

Skip says he's honoured to have been invited to fly at next year's Australian International Airshow. 'I have flown shows all over the world, but I have not yet visited Australia and I am very much looking forward to the opportunity to perform for the wonderful people who live there.'

Airshow fans at Avalon won't be able to miss Skip in his custom built Pitts special, painted in a fiery livery which resembles an American 'Hot Rod'. He's even named his plane 'Prometheus' after the rebel Titan in Greek mythology who angered Zeus by stealing fire from him and returning to earth. 'With 400 horsepower, an American Hot-Rod paint scheme, and G forces in excess of +11 and -6, the airplane is quite a machine,' Skip says.

'The result is that I can fly a very high energy, low-level, seemingly out of control routine that is usually the crowd favourite.' Skip built the muscle bi-plane himself and has modified it to fly exactly to his specifications. It has a climb rate of 4000FPM and a maximum speed of 197 miles per hour. This highly entertaining pilot, whose passion for aviation began when he flew with his crop-dusting grandfather as a youngster, will be part of a star studded line-up at next year's Australian International Airshow and Aerospace & Defence Exposition. Among the exciting acts already confirmed for Avalon2013 are British aerobatic ace, Mark Jefferies and Australia's own 'Top Gun' Matt Hall. AHIA President Peter Crook pictured left and Aerospace Australia Ltd's CEO Ian Honnery at yesterday's announcement. Organisers of the Australian International Airshow and Aerospace & Defence Exposition announced yesterday their support for a new Association to represent Australia’s growing helicopter industry. The formation of the Australian Helicopter Industry Association is a significant achievement for the industry, which has been without a representative body for several years.

Aerospace Australia Limited, the organiser of the upcoming 2013 Australian International Airshow and Aerospace & Defence Exposition, will be the founding patron of the newly formed AHIA. AAL Chief Executive Ian Honnery attended yesterday's official announcement of the formation of the AHIA, telling invited guests to the Sydney event that a representative body for the helicopter industry is long overdue.

“We are extremely pleased to be able to support the establishment of the Australian Helicopter Industry Association,” Mr Honnery said. “This is an industry that is expanding and having a united voice to represent the industry before regulatory bodies and promote future growth opportunities is vital.” Aerospace Australia Limited has long been a supporter of the helicopter industry having facilitated successful showcases at both the Avalon Exposition in Victoria and the Pacific Maritime Exposition in Sydney run by a partner not-for-profit foundation, Maritime Australia Limited. Yesterday’s announcement of the formation of the AHIA coincides with a significant milestone in the helicopter industry. The Civil Aircraft Register has recently passed 2,000 registered helicopters in Australia. “The rotary industry is in an extremely healthy position,” said Mr Honnery. “With a fleet growth rate of around 11 per cent and significant growth in the twin engine fleet due to the demands of the expanding resources sector, establishing an industry wide representative body couldn’t be timelier.” AAL has invited the newly formed helicopter association to hold its official launch at the 2013 Australian International Airshow and Aerospace & Defence Exposition, as well as conduct conferences and seminars at the event to promote the new association to the wider aviation and aerospace communities. The 2013 Australian International Airshow and Aerospace & Defence Exposition will be held from the 26th of February to the 3rd of March at Avalon Airport near Geelong.

In addition, Maritime Australia Limited has also invited the AHIA to hold Rotortech 2013 alongside the 2013 Pacific International Maritime Exposition at the Sydney Exhibition and Convention Centre at Darling Harbour in October next year. ATTTO NZ announces annual award recipients.

Hawker Beechcraft delivers 7,000th Beech King Air. A Beechcraft King Air 350i Hawker Beechcraft Corporation (HBC) today announced it has delivered the 7,000th Beechcraft King Air since the legendary line of twin-engine turboprops began production in 1964. The milestone aircraft is a Beechcraft King Air 350i delivered to Herman & Kittle Properties, Inc., based in Indianapolis. Kittle, HKP’s president and CEO, will be a guest of HBC for a special delivery ceremony at this week’s National Business Aviation Association annual convention in Orlando.

All three current production King Air models – King Air 350i, King Air 250 and King Air C90GTx – will be at HBC’s static display at the Orlando Executive Airport, along with the Multi-Mission Beechcraft King Air 350ER demonstrator aircraft and other HBC aircraft. “The King Air is still king. We delivered the 5,000th King Air in 1996, the 6,000th in 2005 and now we’ve reached 7,000 – clearly, interest in the all-time best-selling business aircraft family is as strong as ever,” said Shawn Vick, HBC executive vice president, Customers. “Thanks to constant innovation, its durability and utility are unmatched by any other airplane in the world.

Through relentless product enhancements, the King Air’s performance and value have continuously increased and set the standards in our industry.” Today’s fleet of 7,000 aircraft has amassed in excess of 45 million flight hours. The King Air is currently operated in 127 countries around the world, including all branches of the U.S. King Air turboprops serve a variety of missions ranging from traditional transport of personnel and high value cargo, to electronic and imagery surveillance, air ambulance, airway calibration, photographic mapping, training and weather modification.

Herman & Kittle Properties, Inc., develops, builds, manages and owns multi-family rental housing and self-storage facilities in 10 states throughout the Midwest and Gulf regions of the United States. The company flies around 300 hours per year, mostly to transport team members to current and potential properties. “Our company was already excited about moving up from the King Air 200 that we’ve loved to a new King Air 350i, so realizing we were getting the 7,000th King Air produced just made it that much more special,” Kittle said. “There’s no question in my mind of why the Beechcraft King Air is so successful. These are great airplanes that are comfortable, meet our mission requirements and are economical to operate.

Among the reasons Kittle cited for choosing the King Air 350i: an ideal combination of payload and range for a variety of missions, a quiet and comfortable state-of-the-art cabin, as well as comprehensive warranty and customer support programs. Kittle added: “Probably the biggest selling point for us with the King Air 350i was the flexibility to load the plane up with full passengers and full fuel; there’s almost no airplane that you can do that with. We fly less than 700 miles for most of our trips, and we get there as fast as a business jet while burning less fuel and with our team being very comfortable and productive in the cabin. The addition of broadband internet and phone access has made it a true workspace. Being able to stay in touch and reply to messages in real-time has tremendous value that will quickly exceed the cost of that upgrade.” Boeing delivers RAAF's 6th C-17. Boeing delivered the sixth Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) C-17 Globemaster III today at the company's final assembly facility in Long Beach.

The airlifter will be assigned to No. 36 Squadron at RAAF Base Amberley near Brisbane, where it will help meet increased demand for airlift to support military, humanitarian and peacekeeping operations. 'I am delighted to accept the sixth C-17 on behalf of the Royal Australian Air Force,' said RAAF Chief of Air Force, Air Marshal Geoff Brown. 'The C-17 is a capability that has improved Australia's reach locally, regionally and globally. Individually, the aircraft is impressive – but as a fleet, it has fundamentally enhanced our strategic airlift agility to meet the Australian Defence Force Air Mobility requirements.' The government of Australia announced its intent to buy a sixth airlifter during last year’s arrival ceremony for the RAAF's fifth C-17. The contract was completed on June 6 and now Boeing has delivered the aircraft less than five months later, due to the strong cooperation among the Australian and U.S.

Governments working with the Boeing team. 'The C-17 symbolizes the strength and the enduring nature of the partnership between Boeing and the Commonwealth of Australia,' said Bob Ciesla, vice president, Airlift, and C-17 program manager.

'We look forward to supporting the RAAF and this aircraft as we do the five other C-17s at Amberley.' Boeing provides after-delivery support to the RAAF C-17 fleet as part of the C-17 Globemaster III Integrated Sustainment Program (GISP) Performance-Based Logistics agreement with the U.S. The GISP 'virtual fleet' arrangement provides the highest airlift mission-capable rate at one of the lowest costs per flying hour.

Boeing has delivered 248 C-17s worldwide, including 218 to the U.S. Air Force active duty, Guard and Reserve units. A total of 30 C-17s have been delivered to Australia, Canada, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the 12-member Strategic Airlift Capability initiative of NATO and Partnership for Peace nations.

India has 10 C-17s on order for delivery in 2013 and 2014. Avalon 2013 will be the place to do business. Organisers of the 2013 Australian International Airshow and Aerospace & Defence Exposition say facilities for exhibitors and trade visitors will be first class at next year’s event at Avalon.

Substantial work has gone into developing new and improved facilities for exhibitors and other industry stakeholders. Australian International Airshow and Aerospace & Defence Exposition CEO Ian Honnery says Avalon Means Business in 2013. “We have worked very hard at injecting into the event added value for our industry stakeholders by enhancing the facilities at Avalon.” One of the major improvements at Avalon 2013 will be a new roof system for the exhibition pavilions which should significantly reduce noise from air-conditioning and wind induced noise. A double layered, inflatable roof cover for the exhibition pavilions will provide greater insulation and a more pleasant working environment for exhibitors.

In addition, a new generation ‘Exhibitor Business Unit’ will also be introduced for the first time at Avalon 2013. These EBUs are reminiscent of those at other International Airshows such as Farnborough, and have been designed to reflect the business needs of exhibitors, their guests and colleagues. The Exhibitor Business Units will be located in a dedicated precinct with the entrance now facing the exhibition pavilion but also retaining the fantastic view of the flight line. “The concept will enable industry to engage with customers, including government, defence and industry in a way which is every bit as a high a standard as other world class aerospace exhibitions,” Mr Honnery says. The previous Corporate Reception Chalets have also been replaced by brand new facilities.

These Chalets will retain the same access points, great entertaining area and view of the flying displays but in a much higher standard structure. Considerable effort has also gone into enhancing the conference facilities at Avalon to encourage a larger variety of conferences, seminars and symposia in conjunction with the event. The centralised conference facility near the main gate and adjacent to the Exhibition pavilion will include a number of conference rooms with various seating capacities. To assist in the smooth running of conferences at the Avalon site, a significant change to the timing of the air displays is also being introduced at Avalon 2013. The proposal is that there will be no flying displays in the morning, then a limited display at the end of the lunch period, followed by the rest of the flying program later in the afternoon when people are engaging in industry networking in a more relaxed atmosphere. “We recognise that display noise has been a deterrent to industry networking so the changes to the flying display times will allow delegates to these conferences the ability to take better advantage of the networking opportunities available at the Exposition.” Avalon 2013 promises to deliver added value to its industry stakeholders, exhibitors, trade visitors and delegations. The Australian International Airshow and Aerospace Exposition will be staged at Avalon Airport, near Geelong in Victoria from the 26 of February to the 3rd of March.

EADS North America concludes AAS-72X+ national demo tour. EADS North America has concluded a national demonstration tour that allowed Army aviators to experience the capabilities of the company’s AAS-72X+ Armed Aerial Scout helicopter offering. The AAS-72X+, an armed derivative of the Army’s highly successful UH-72A Lakota, is on display this week at the Association of the U.S. Army annual exposition in Washington, D.C. The AAS-72X+ will be manufactured by the company’s American Eurocopter business unit in Columbus, Miss., on the same hot production line that has delivered 240 Lakotas on time and on budget.

Lockheed Martin provides the mission computer and integrates the mission equipment. 9 to 19, company officials provided flight time in a representative aircraft to pilots from the Army’s Armed Aerial Scout community at Fort Riley, Kan., Fort Hood, Texas, Fort Campbell, Ky., and Fort Bragg, N.C. 'We want the warfighters who know first-hand how demanding the Armed Aerial Scout mission is to experience the difference in performance that the AAS-72X+ offers,' said Sean O’Keefe, EADS North America Chairman and CEO. The national demo tour followed on the heels of a highly successful Voluntary Flight Demonstration (VFD) EADS North America conducted for Army evaluators in the mountains of Colorado in late September and early October. The VFD was part of the service’s effort to assess potential replacements for the OH-58 Kiowa, which was first fielded more than four decades ago.

'It’s time for a competition,' O’Keefe said. 'We’ve proven that we have an affordable, low-risk solution that can close the operational gap between the demands of the Armed Aerial Scout mission and the limited capabilities of the current single-engine, Vietnam-era aircraft.' EADS North America chose to fly its VFD in the mountains to showcase the exceptional performance of the AAS-72X+ offering at the higher altitudes that are most demanding for helicopters.

Routinely flying missions between 10,000 and 14,000 feet, pilots met or exceeded Army helicopter performance and handling standards normally assessed at sea level. The AAS-72X+, which is cost-competitive with the upgrades planned for the OH-58, could be fielded with Army units as early as 2016. Garmin expands its portfolio of business aviation solutions. Garmin International Inc announced today the launch of the GTS 8000 Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS II)/Airbone Collision Avoidance System (ACAS II) for transport category aircraft. The GTS 8000 improves safety by maintaining constant surveillance, identifying potential traffic conflicts and issuing traffic alerts and maneuver commands to clear the aircraft of traffic conflicts. The GTS 8000 meets the most recent TCAS II/ACAS II standardization requirements, including Change 7.1 compliance, which will be mandated in many countries worldwide as early as 2014.

“With air traffic expected to continue increasing at a rapid pace, pilots want to be sure they have the best equipment onboard to enhance safety and efficiency of their operations,” said Carl Wolf, Garmin’s vice president of aviation sales and marketing. “The GTS 8000 provides pilots with that extra set of eyes to monitor surrounding traffic and the ability to offer commands to avoid immediate conflicts.

The GTS 8000 also incorporates ADS-B “In” technology, all the while offering the size, weight and cost of ownership benefits that pilots have come to expect from Garmin products.” Traffic information from the GTS 8000 can be displayed on Garmin’s G5000, G3000, and G1000 integrated flight decks, as well as a wide variety of cockpit displays. Additional traffic symbology can be displayed on Garmin Synthetic Vision Technology (SVT™)-equipped PFDs. When the GTS 8000 receives replies to its interrogations, it computes the responding aircraft’s range, bearing, relative altitude, and closure rate.

Then, it enhances its surveillance capability with data received from ADS-B Out equipped targets, plots and tracks the traffic location, predicts potential traffic conflicts, and depicts the information on the traffic display. The GTS 8000 will also offer the pilot visual and aural instructions to avoid an immediate conflict, with an alert known as a Resolution Advisory (RA).

For example, the advisory may command a change in vertical speed by instructing the pilot to 'Descend” or “Climb”. The GTS 8000 will coordinate the RA maneuver with other TCAS II-equipped aircraft before issuing commands to the pilots. Included with the system is Garmin’s patented CLEAR CAS™ (Correlated Location Enhanced ADS-B Receiver Collision Avoidance System) technology, which provides pilots with the highest bearing determination accuracy and extended range surveillance available. CLEAR CAS uses a blended surveillance method of active interrogation and passive reception of 1090 MHz Extended Squitter ADS-B data. CLEAR CAS allows the TCAS traffic computer to further reduce active interrogations by using intruder position data received via ADS-B equipped aircraft. In the future, software-only upgrades can be incorporated to add Airborne Separation Assurance System (ASAS) applications such as Surface Area Movement Management (SAMM), Merging and Spacing, CDTI Assisted Visual Separation (CAVS) and more.

In addition to CLEAR CAS technology, the GTS 8000 offers weight savings above and beyond existing products on the market. The GTS 8000 has received Technical Standard Orders (TSO) certification.

It will be standard equipment on several new aircraft platforms including the Cessna Citation TEN, Citation Latitude, Citation Longitude and Citation Sovereign, the Bombardier Learjet 70 and Learjet 75, as well as future forward fit and upgrade programs. Aviation investment to grow Victoria’s economy. Premier Ted Baillieu and Minister responsible for the Aviation Industry Gordon Rich-Phillips today welcomed Virgin Australia’s plans to increase investment in Victoria by acquiring a 60 per cent stake in Tiger Airways. “This planned deal could see Melbourne-based Tiger Airlines grow from 11 up to 35 aircraft by 2018, which would certainly increase the size of Tiger’s operations and generate a significant number of jobs for Victorian aviation,” Mr Baillieu said. “The plans announced today are also good news for Victorians, with the potential for more low-cost flights out of Victoria opening up a number of new destinations, and of course an increase in inbound tourism. An increase in services will bring a direct benefit to Victoria’s tourism, retail and hospitality industries'. Mr Rich-Phillips said Virgin and Singapore Airlines-backed Tiger have agreed to commit just over $62 million jointly to fund the growth of Tiger in Australia, and the Government was confident that much of that growth would benefit Victoria.

“Virgin’s announcement today is another testament to the strength of Victoria’s aviation sector and our capacity to increase airline services at Melbourne’s curfew-free airport, as compared to Sydney, which currently does not have any flexibility to attract this type of further aviation investment,” Mr Rich-Phillips said. The Victorian Coalition Government also recently announced as part of the Super Trade Mission to China that China’s Sichuan Airlines would establish its Australian headquarters in Melbourne and commence direct flights between Chengdu and Melbourne.

Mr Baillieu said today’s announcement of the planned growth of Tiger Airways, together with the establishment of Sichuan Airlines in Victoria and the commencement of international services from Avalon, sent a strong message to other airlines seeking to invest or expand in Australia. Virgin Australia’s 60 per cent acquisition of Tiger Airways is subject to approvals from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB). Bell Boeing receives US Marine Corps contract.

Boeing has converted the V-22 fuselage into a high-fidelity CV-22 trainer. Marine Corps has awarded a $74 million contract to the Bell Boeing V-22 Program, a strategic alliance between Boeing and Bell Helicopter, for seven Osprey ground-based trainers, which will reduce fuel usage and aircraft wear-and-tear, maximizing lifecycle cost savings. The contract award for Containerized Flight Training Devices (CFTD) also includes the option for the Marines to add one additional unit. 'Our trainers prepare warfighters for any task that might be performed in the aircraft while keeping crews and aircraft safely on the ground,' said Mark McGraw, Boeing vice president for Training Systems and Government Services.

'This positions the Bell Boeing team as the sole, experienced provider for future international sales, as well.' The CFTD is used to train aircrews on basic aircraft familiarization and handling qualities, day and night flying (including use of night vision goggles), formation flying, aerial refueling and landing on ships. All CFTDs can be locally networked to one another and to other aircraft trainers to allow for more robust simulations. Bell Boeing has delivered, or is on contract to deliver, a total of 28 Osprey flight trainers. This includes the current CFTDs, earlier MV-22 trainers and those delivered to the U.S. The first two of the newly contracted trainers will be delivered to Marine Helicopter Squadron One at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Va., in May 2014 to support presidential transport activities. Other deliveries will follow in Hawaii, California and New Jersey starting in January 2015.

More than 145 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft are in operation today, including Marine Corps MV-22s deployed in Afghanistan and Air Force Special Operations Command CV-22s used in ongoing Special Operations missions. Garmin unveils new features for G600, G500. Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd, the global leader in satellite navigation, today announced new features and additional external equipment compatibilities for the G600 and G500 flight display systems. With the latest software and the new GAD 43e adapter, the G600 and G500 can display and control altitude preselect and vertical speed, and display DME distance, analog radar altitude, analog nav data and more.

“These new interface capabilities reduce pilot workload and enhance safety by putting more valuable information right in the pilot’s primary field of view,” said Carl Wolf, Garmin’s vice president of aviation sales and marketing. “By integrating this data into the G600 and G500 digital displays, aircraft owners have an opportunity to clean up their panel and enhance the reliability of the instruments by removing older equipment.” The GAD 43e is an enhanced version of the GAD 43 adapter. Just like the GAD 43, the GAD 43e allows Garmin’s digital Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS) to provide analog attitude information for use with select third-party autopilot systems in place of a costly-to-maintain attitude direction indicator (ADI) or remote vertical gyro (VG).

The GAD 43e interfaces with the Garmin G500 and G600 for configuration and display, and it interfaces with Garmin’s remote AHRS unit for attitude, heading, and yaw input information. For attitude-based autopilots, the GAD 43e can emulate the system’s gyro interfaces with far more accurate and reliable AHRS data. This typically lets aircraft owners remove the existing ADI or attitude gyro, such as the familiar KI-256, and replace it on the panel with a more affordable attitude indicator as the backup instrumentation. The enhanced GAD 43e functions as an altitude preselector and vertical speed controller when interfaced to compatible autopilots.

The GAD 43e also allows aircraft owners to interface their existing compatible analog NAV radios and display VOR/LOC/GS with the G600/G500 flight display system. Furthermore, the GAD 43e enables the G600/G500 flight display system to display marker beacon lamps, DME indications, synchro ADF bearing pointers and analog radar altimeter read out, allowing the pilot to remove older equipment and clean up the panel.

Functions of the GAD 43e are enabled with G600/G500 software version 6.11 at no additional cost (installation charges may apply). Version 6.11 software and the GAD 43e are AML STC approved for the G600. AML STC approval for the G500 is expected soon. The GAD 43e will be available as standard equipment with a version of the G600 and as an option for the G500 for $4,995.

Customers with an existing GAD 43 who are able to take advantage of the enhanced benefits of the GAD 43e can upgrade their adapter through a Garmin Authorized Dealer. Pilatus PC-12 pilot makes 200th Atlantic crossing. In a ceremony today at Pilatus Business Aircraft Ltd in Broomfield, Colorado, ferry pilot Roger Engel was honored for his 200th and final PC-12 delivery flight. Taxiing into Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport under the arches of water jets fired 40 feet into the air by the airfield’s fire trucks, delivery pilot Roger Engel was welcomed by the entire staff of Pilatus Business Aircraft Ltd. Engel just completed his 200th delivery of a Pilatus PC-12 to the Broomfield, Colorado business which handles all completions work for new aircraft being prepared for customers in North and South America. Engel’s flight path followed a routine quite familiar to him: 22-hours of total flight time over 3 days, starting in Stans, Switzerland and making stops in Prestwick Scotland, Reykjavik Iceland, Kangerlussuaq Greenland, Iqaluit Nunavit, Thunder Bay Ontario, and finally to his destination just outside Denver. The ceremony in Broomfield also served a dual purpose: this was to be Roger Engel’s final flight before retiring as a delivery pilot for Pilatus.

Commenting on this significant milestone, Engel modestly stated, “The PC-12, as usual, performed flawlessly on the whole flight.” And, on Engel’s 200th and final flight, he accomplished his mission with a perfect record. While most of Engel’s trips have been solo, he has been joined on several occasions by PC-12 owners who want to make the adventurous journey in their new aircraft. Customers learn a lot sitting next to Roger for 3 days, but Pilatus’ goal is to ensure the ocean crossing is anything but adventurous. Coalition funds $100,000 Edenhope Airport upgrade.

The Victorian Coalition Government will spend more than $100,000 to upgrade Edenhope’s Aerodrome to improve access for air emergency services. Aviation Minister Gordon Rich-Phillips made the announcement while visiting Edenhope today. “Edenhope’s aerodrome is a vital piece of community infrastructure and I congratulate West Wimmera Shire Council for pursuing this project,” Mr Rich-Phillips said, “the upgrade will give peace of mind to the West Wimmera community by helping the state’s air ambulances and aerial firefighters to reach Edenhope more easily.

The funding will be used to widen the airstrip which will mean Air Ambulance Victoria will be able to fly in and out of Edenhope during the day or night. Importantly, it will also allow larger aircraft, particularly the King Air B350 which could become the standard aircraft used by Air Ambulance Victoria, to land at Edenhope,” Mr Rich-Phillips said. Member for Lowan Hugh Delahunty said the upgrade to Edenhope Aerodrome would make the district more accessible. “Transport is a big issue for country communities and, in particular, for Edenhope residents who need to travel almost 100 kilometres to Horsham or 400 kilometres to Melbourne to access many services,” Mr Delahunty said, 'upgrading the airport at Edenhope provides the community with another important travel option, be it for business or recreation. It’s also important for the local aerial agricultural providers who are based at the airport.” Funding for the project has been made available through the Coalition Government’s $20 million Regional Aviation Fund, which was established to improve airport infrastructure.

Applications for the Regional Aviation Fund are being accepted and can be made at www.business.vic.gov.au. Lift in business jet registrations in Singapore. New research from Hawker Beechcraft Corporation (HBC), the world's leading manufacturer of business, special mission, light attack and trainer aircraft, reveals that there has been a strong increase in demand for business aircraft in Singapore. Its findings reveal that deliveries of business aircraft in the country between 2002-2006 and 2007- 2011 increased by 500 percent, from three to 18. There are currently approximately 29 business turbine aircraft registered in Singapore, 3.3 percent of the total in Asia. HBC has sold 15 aircraft to customers in Asia so far this year alone, underlining the growing demand for aircraft across the region.

Commenting on the research, Sean McGeough, president of Europe, Middle East and Africa for HBC said: “These sales mark an increase in demand from Asia. Asia’s share of global business aircraft deliveries has increased over the last 10 years and we expect this to continue to grow, reflecting the increasing influence and economic development of emerging markets. Singapore is enjoying strong growth, and saw its GDP increase by 4.92 percent last year. A further indication of its economic strength is that the country’s number of HNWIs is expected to grow by 47% between 2011 and 2015. Its UHNWI population is expected to grow by 49% over the same period'. McGeough continued: “The overall economic signals remain strong, which is a positive sign for business aviation.

In addition, the proportion of the business turbine aircraft market that is for sale which is often used as an indicator of the health of the whole market – is relatively low in Singapore, currently standing at around 10 percent, compared with 11 percent in North America and 15 percent in Europe, suggesting the market has room for growth.” Avalon on its way to becoming international airport. Now the Commonwealth has finally agreed to back Avalon Airport as the state’s second international airport, major airlines will be able to invest with greater certainty and Avalon can be realised as Victoria’s second international passenger airport, Premier Ted Baillieu said today. Mr Baillieu said the decision by the Commonwealth Government to amend Avalon Airport’s lease to allow it to build a new international terminal was long overdue. “This was a major roadblock we highlighted when we committed to support Avalon Airport becoming Victoria’s second international airport in 2008. The Coalition Government has committed $50 million for the design, planning, land acquisition and preliminary construction works of a rail link to Avalon Airport and $3 million to develop a fuel-line to pipe aviation fuel from Shell Geelong directly to the airport.” Aviation Minister Gordon Rich-Phillips said Avalon had been at a major competitive disadvantage to Melbourne Airport because it lacked the Commonwealth support required to enable it to attract international airlines. “It has been a lengthy process to get the Commonwealth to agree to this amendment.

The Victorian Government has been working closely with Avalon Airport to get the Commonwealth over the line,” Mr Rich-Phillips said. “The development of Avalon Airport is a priority project for the Coalition Government because we see it as a a major regional economic development initiative for Wyndham, Greater Geelong and western Victoria. It’s also a great economic advantage for Victoria, because its means we will have two major international, curfew-free airports in the state paving the way for more competition in the state’s aviation industry and boosting tourism access to western Victoria.” Member for Western Victoria David Koch said Avalon’s development would benefit Geelong and south western Victoria by increasing jobs and investment opportunities, improving the goods and services supply chains and providing greater accessibility to national and international markets Eurocopter showcases the newly upgraded EC130-T2.

Eurocopter’s newest lightweight single engine helicopter – the EC130 T2 - is completing a two-week demo tour in several European countries to demonstrate its exceptional capabilities for aerial work and heavy lifting operations in mountainous and low altitude environments. Unveiled at Heli Expo 2012 in Dallas, where it registered a total of 105 bookings, the new version of the EC130 light helicopter was awarded EASA certification in May of 2012 and FAA certification on July of 2012. The first EC130 T2 was delivered last week to Maverick Aviation Group, a leader in the Las Vegas and Grand Canyon tourism industry, which placed an order for 50 of the newly enhanced aircraft. The EC130 T2 demo tour, which kicked off in Evian (France) on September 27, will allow the new aircraft to show off its performances for clients and operators through flight demonstrations in Switzerland, Italy, The Netherlands and Sweden before finishing up the tour in Norway on October 15.

On average, some 50 customers per day will have the opportunity to fly onboard the new EC130 T2, the latest version of the proven EC130. The demonstrations will permit commercial customers from various market segments to discover the enhanced flight characteristics of the new aircraft, and special attention will be paid to showcase the capabilities of the EC130 T2 to perform aerial and utility work as well as passenger transportations in mountainous areas (Swiss and Italian Alps) as well as in low altitude conditions (Nordic countries).

This demo tour provides a unique occasion for aerial work operators to test the outstanding operational performances of the latest member of the Ecureuil family, which features an upgraded gearbox and a new Turbomeca Arriel 2D engine, providing 10 percent more average power than the engine used in the previous EC130 B4 version. Performance improvements for the EC130 T2 include a higher maximum gross takeoff weight (2,500 kg for internal loads and 3,050 kg when carrying external loads) and a speed increase of up to 10 knots. Several guest pilots will be able to take the controls of the EC130 T2 side-by-side with Eurocopter pilot Olivier Gensse, where they will be able to experience the extraordinary lift capacity of the new aircraft’s aerial/utility work configuration, which features a cargo swing able to lift up to 1,500 kg. Customers will also have the chance to experience the increased versatility and enhanced comfort of the EC130 T2 upgraded version, which provides improved air ventilation with an optional powerful air conditioning, an efficient anti-vibration system and ease of access thanks to its two sliding doors.
