I'd say they're more platonic. In all the games. In Explorers, I can see why so many people would ship them, though - especially with how meek and reliant the partner is on the hero for most of the game, clinging to the hero and using them as a stepping stone to grow stronger to the point of idolizing them. They even raise a kid together in the post-game. When I played through the Explorers games as a kid, I related to the partner more than I did the hero, so I personally can't imagine anything other than a strong friendship between those two. People often don't ship the Rescue Team hero and partner because of how the partner stops following the hero around and decides to live in his Friend Area as an ordinary recruit in the post-game.

After crying over the hero, you'd think the partner'd want to spend more time with them, but I guess not. It felt awkward to most players and I guess it felt awkward to most shippers, too. Gates and Super had plenty of material to work with ship-wise, but a lot of people - myself included - feel a little weird about shipping the hero and partner from Super because the hero is mentally much older than the partner for most of the game (in the beginning of the game, the hero reveals that they're an ambiguously older person stuck in a kid's body, while the partner literally grew up as a kid). Shipping involving Super's Hero is just odd in general.

They are mentally older (I place them more as a teen since their dialogue suggests a degree of separation from adulthood as it does childhood, but that's beside the point), but physically and socially they're a child. So despite having the mind of someone who's older, they're going to go through the same developmental stages that whatever Pokemon they became would naturally go through and everyone outside of the few Pokemon that know about their past is going to see them as just a kid. Therefore, they're kinda in a damned if you do, damned if you don't sort of situation. Those older would feel uncomfortable romancing them because they are a kid in society's eyes.

However they themselves would probably feel awkward romancing anyone 'their age' since they're not that age, technically. Between the two options, though, I suppose I prefer the Hero being romanced with someone 'their age' over the alternative. Because they're still going to grow up and physically mature and go through the same rites of passage that other children around them are eventually going through.

Even if their mental age is older, I'd imagine they have to reach that mental age before they can 'grow up' anymore, so to speak. So I don't mind Hero/Partner in Super that much because of that, so long as they're both older. Eventually, the thing that makes it awkward, their mental age differences, will eventually no longer be the case. Granted, this is based on how I see it. I can see others not agreeing with me and still finding it awkward even if the two are older.

It just occurred to me how the partner shares their dream of making their own paradise and making the world a better place, and how the human Pokemon just supports them the whole way through despite knowing nothing about where they are in the world right now. I haven't thought of shipping them, but thinking back on it, it makes a lot of sense to me.

As for Explorers, HECK YE! The hero is practically the basis of all of the partner's courage and ambition, and as they go on they just keep supporting each-other when they can, both when the player character has to deal with the issues of the memory loss, or when they are both in a dire situation and the partner needs help coping with it all. Though this might be projection, because I know I really cared for my Treecko partner and wanted to be with him as much as possible. And also this was my first Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Game, and I was pretty much freaking out until the credits came to an end.

It's always Platonic, but at times depending on the situation it can certainly be nudged into romance if either of them wanted to move forward with one. I tend to ship them. So on that note: Rescue Partner: n/a Never played Rescue Team Explorers Partner: Maybe A loooottt of people ship these two but personally I didn't see it too too much. Carte De Bucate Herghelia Download. Partner spent a lot of time with Grovyle to the point where personally I felt like I was a third wheel to the two. If it weren't for Dimensional Scream, I almost feel like I didn't contribute anything they couldn't do in their tag-team. Gates Partner: Definitely The Gates partner was the one I felt the closest to out of any of the PMD partners, partly because they felt the most 'real' in the way that they interacted with the hero. Besides the Explorers partner, they interacted the most with other characters outside of you-- but unlike the Explorers partner, it was pretty clear that you were their best friend.

Not to mention that the Hero helps the Gates partner fulfill their dream, that dream being something besides just getting 'stronger' as is usually the case. That's gotta mean somethin'. Super Partner: No I mean, personally I wasn't a fan of the Super partner in general, but it doesn't feel right. The Super partner is clearly a little kid somewhere in the gradeschool years. This is partly on account of my self-insertion into the PMD protags (though isn't that the point of this game?) but I always viewed them as late teens or young adults.

I wasn't aware we'd be treated like children going in, and since it's children, it's just. I'm probably one of the more conservative people here, but good lord, Platonic. We are talking about someone who was human falling in love with someone that isn't even humanoid.

Really, it's only one step before zoophilia. Shipping the two of them is flat out revolting. Super especially, where the player character is suggested to be older than the others, while the partner is explicitly a child, so we can throw paedophilia into the mix there as well. Shipping these two is disgusting, and you're disgusting for doing so. Personal moral tirade aside, the player character shows the most attachment towards the partner in Super, but the Super showed the least attachment towards the player character in comparison to the other games.
